Demonstration

My paintings begin with the initial inspiration from something I have seen or experienced. In this demonstration I am painting a 1946 Chevrolet pick-up. I have been fascinated with these old vehicles for years and a large body of my work represents them. I came across this little truck at a nursery in Jamal, CA. I was captivated with the way the light streamed across the front of the fender and grill. I knew I had an interesting photograph but the most successful paintings start with a good drawing. It is helpful to remember a camera has one eye and no brain. It is my job as an artist to put life into the painting. Before I paint is when I work out the design, value plan and colors. With transparent watercolor the white of the page is the only white. It is very essential to be aware of these areas and save them thoughout the painting process.
